ARE WE IN A RIGHT WAY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK?
A few factors are considered vital for healthy development for children including home environment, school environment, and technology environment. Firstly, home environments include parenting styles, economic status, and family background. Parenting style is something that parents should take seriously by connecting with children in positive methods so that children will develop into an adult as a whole and balanced individual. Secondly, school environments can be seen as the relationship between children with teachers and children with peers. Teachers have a great influence on the healthy development of children, mentally and socially. Teachers as role models in school have the responsibility to educate the children holistically with the goal to create an intelligent and wise young generation. Thirdly, the technology environment is when children use gadgets like androids, smartphones, or game devices which have internet connections and apply social media such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube in their daily life. Technology as we know has the greatest impact on children’s life. It is the responsibility of parents to monitor children using these technologies as it can divert into a negative impact on the children it is not controlled.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Having information and facts about COVID-19 will help diminish children’s fears and anxieties about the disease. But how can we explain it in a more friendly way to children? One of the methods is through storytelling or read aloud to children.
Did you know the World Health Organization (WHO) had collaborated with the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG) to publish a children’s storybook?. The title of the storybook is “My Hero is You, How kids can fight COVID-19!”. It was officially released on 31st March 2020 with aims to help children primarily aged 6-11 years old understand about COVID-19. The storybook also has been widely translated into many language versions in order to reach as many children as possible. You also can get the storybook for free through the WHO official website.
Hopefully, with the help of a fantasy creature in the storybook can explain more to children how they can protect themselves, families, and friends from coronavirus also how to manage difficult emotions when confronted with a new and rapidly changing reality.
We can help by sharing the storybook for making sure that the story and its messages resonated with children from different backgrounds and continents.

Children tend to be picky eaters and it’s a norm at their age. How do we cope with their preferences? You can start changing their picky habits by respecting your child’s appetite. Give your child time to explore taste and flavors. If you have your own meal routine, stick to the routine to help your child become familiar with it. Just like a colorful and cheerful world children love to be in, the same goes for food presentation with children. Serve your child with a creative presentation of food and serve meals and snacks at the same time. Hopefully, these simple tips can help parents and educators to overcome problems with picky eaters and develop a better eating habit for them.
